Oops! You’ve Outgrown Your Copy — Here’s Why That’s a Good Thing.

As a kid, I was a devoted member of a lip-syncing garage band with my sis and 2 neighbor kids.

Their dad was an actual musician 🎸, so to say we were a true music ensemble feels a tad irresponsible. We used their dad’s old guitars, drum set, and mic as props to give the illusion we knew what we were doing. Deeply entrenched in 90’s culture, our band was aptly named The Kidz.

Imagine, if you will, 4 scruffy kids with oversized instruments and uneven eyeliner. All filmed on a shaky camcorder.

We won on commitment, not creativity. (Hmm, this helps in copywriting, too.)

Our main hit was a flat rendition of One of Us by Joan Osborne. We’d mix it up with Ace of Base and Hanson. (Mmm…no, thanks?) I secretly hoped for a personal invite from Joan herself for the next Lilith Fair. 🤩

Plot twist: As we drifted into middle school, the sole boy of our group started to be less interested in attending “band practice” and, truly, being around us girls at all.

A rogue band member straying from the group? Not today. 🙅🏻‍♀️

In the mixed-up logic only pre-internet children can conjure, we duct-taped him to a chair and gave him a “makeover”. Think bright blue eyeshadow, scrunchies, and dollar-store gel.

To be clear, I support makeup (or lack thereof) on any gender. Your body, your glitter. But this prank didn’t go over well in 1997. As opposed to being a playful game, it only drove us all further apart.

It highlighted the painful reality he had outgrown the band and perhaps we had, too.

But it wasn’t a bad thing. It was an appropriate rite of passage. A time to individuate before we could reform our friendship as nostalgic adults, happily laughing at our antics.

How does this relate to your copy?

Well, let’s take a quick assessment of where you’re at with your biz copy. 📈

Which business owner are you? 🤔

Embarrassed 🫣 You threw together some copy just to get your website out there, but it doesn’t feel like you anymore. You’re low-key mortified to share your website.

Evolving: 🌱 You’re ready to work with a completely different population or practice a new modality, but you’re not sure how to update your web copy.

Expert Status: 🧑🏽‍🎓You’ve been around the block a few times and brought your clients transformative results. But your copy reflects none of that expertise and magic.

Expanding 🎢 You’re flexing your entrepreneurial muscles – into a group practice, coaching, consulting, or courses – and you need the right words, more than ever, to market your services.

What do you all have in common?

You have outgrown your copy.

If you ignore your outdated copy – but still expect it to bring you in ideal clients – it usually backfires.

You attract clients you don’t like – or none at all. Your copy isn’t memorable so no one remembers what you do. Your personality remains hidden.

You don’t have to stay in copy purgatory. That's where I come in.

I can help you write copy that reflects the badass you are now and highlights the transformative work you do.

Together, we can craft copy that sets you on the right path to achieving your business dreams.

Cuz I’ve been on both sides. The clinician with the snooze-worthy copy. And the entrepreneur who’s working with her too-good-to-be-true clients. (Current status: happy AF.)

Time to pick your poison. 🍎
